If your body has areas of excessive fatty tissue, or you want to improve the overall shape of your body, then you might want to consider liposuction cosmetic surgery.
If you any of the following apply to you, then you are a good candidate for liposuction cosmetic surgery…
1) You have developed excess fat around your stomach, hips, buttocks, thighs, arms, neck or back. 2) Despite prolonged exercising and dieting, certain fatty deposits around your body prove impossible to remove. 3) Your fatty tissues are not around areas where you have excess, sagging skin – skin elasticity being important since liposuction only removes fat and not skin.
Your plastic surgeon will evaluate you to make sure that you are a good candidate for liposuction. He or she may ask you to look in the mirror and point out the areas that you want to be improved. Some pictures will be taken, and these photos will be used help your surgeon to determine what you expect, and to let you know what can actually be achieved.
You will want to make note of prior surgeries, medical conditions you have now, or that you have had before, along with any medications and allergies. Be sure to provide complete information, since some conditions can affect your eligibility for surgery.
So, how exactly will your surgeon help you achieve your dream look? Well, liposuction cosmetic surgery removes the fatty tissue you want to get rid of with a hollow tube, or canula, that will be passed through your fatty areas. Some surgeons use a pump that creates a vacuum, and this process is known as suction-assisted liposuction or SAL. A motor may help the canula vacillate, and this process is called power-assisted liposuction or PAL. Sound waves may also be used to break down the fat cells, and ready them to be removed, or a laser may be used to break the fatty tissue down.
You do not need to overly concern yourself with the various different methods of liposuction though, as your surgeon will, having advised you and listened to your feedback, make the final decision. They will have performed liposuction many times before, so you can rest assured that they will know exactly what will be right for you.
Once the surgery has been performed, which generally takes a few hours at most, you will need to rest and recuperate for a period of about ten days. There are generally no complications with the procedure, as it is one of the most common ones that plastic surgeons perform, and so no follow up operations should be necessary.
The results of your liposuction usually last for a long period of time, however, the healing process can be gradual, so it may take several months for you to notice the full effects of your surgery. Some slight scaring may initially be visible but, over the course of a few months, this will fade to the extent that is barely visible.
